Dear Friends,

Picture the scene: a typical Sunday morning at the bustling Sand Cherry Farms in Fort Morgan, Colorado. The air carries the scent of wild flowers and freshly turned soil- or maybe that’s just Sasha’s “zausted” snoring. Sasha, our hyper yellow Lab, sprawls lazily in front of the stove, dreaming of squirrel hunts and fetch games, after a day of rambunctious shenanigans. Now meet Annie, our feisty old queen bee, a senior black Lab who keeps Sasha and me in line. She’s comfortably nestled on the couch, contentedly drifting in the land of dreams.

And who am I? Just the “preferred typing dog” of the bunch, Katie. Another black Lab, albeit much younger, and I have a thing for fireworks – or lack thereof. I’ve been elected to regale you with our recent escapades.

Our Uncle Chet, a sturdy man, returned from North Park post work to help prep our equipment for a significant day. While Chet battled the vagaries of the work-week and the weekend weather, Sasha decided it was unsafe to conduct our planned burn. A smart decision by our amateur Fire Boss, given we want our paw-friends to remain safe, right?

But let me tell you what’s not safe: Sasha doing a high-wire act! After we’d fetched the hay and corn elevator from Brush, Sasha confidently strolled up the metal ramp, 20 feet into the air! I could see Uncle Chet biting his nails on the ground, gasping at every minor teeter-totter, until Sasha sauntered back down.

Meanwhile, Grandma and Grandpa, took care of the home front. Grandma diligently prepared sweet pastries and beverages, readying the tuck point for the big day. Crucial when one is refuelling hard-working dogs and humans alike.

So, here’s the scoop: our burn planned for the 3rd is a go! We are excited about whatever the upcoming adventure brings our way. After all, at Sand Cherry Farms, it’s never what you expect – it’s always something paw-some!

Yours in tails and tales,

Katie
